Camera modes


The following camera modes are used by natives such as GetPlayerCameraMode. We included the constant names which R* have used in development, along with a description for clarification. Keep in mind that a lot of them don't have much value for server developers, and that a lot of them only served a role in developing GTA: III, GTA: VC, and GTA: SA. We marked these camera modes with "Usage discouraged". Special thanks to The_Hero for his help in setting up this list.

It should be noted that UG-MP uses the same camera modes as SA-MP uses. This list is simply far more detailed.


ID Constant Description
0 MODE_NONE Self-explanatory.
1 MODE_TOPDOWN The top down camera used in GTA: III. Used only for cars.
2 MODE_GTACLASSIC Usage discouraged A broken/buggy version of MODE_TOPDOWN.
3 MODE_BEHINDCAR Usage discouraged An early camera mode which is most likely not used anymore.
4 MODE_FOLLOWPED The camera is set to follow the player. It comes with several modes for the distance.
5 MODE_AIMING Usage discouraged The standard aiming camera mode. It is no longer available. It is still present in the PS2 version of GTA: III, though.
6 MODE_DEBUG The debug camera. The way it was used involved the use of a secondary controller, and the camera functions very similarly to what Amazing Screenshot offers.
7 MODE_SNIPER The sniper scope camera mode.
8 MODE_ROCKETLAUNCHER The rocket launcher scope camera mode.
9 MODE_MODELVIEW Usage discouraged A camera mode for a model viewer probably used by R* in development.
10 MODE_BILL Usage discouraged A camera mode used by Bill Henderson to find a suitable beta offset used by MODE_BEHINDCAR. It is still present in the PS2 version of GTA: III.
11 MODE_SYPHON Used when locking on to a target.
12 MODE_CIRCLE The camera will rotate around the target over time.
13 MODE_CHEESYZOOM Usage discouraged Probably an alias for MODE_WHEELCAM. It is still present in the PS2 version of GTA: III.
14 MODE_WHEELCAM Camera is panned to the vehicle wheels.
15 MODE_FIXED Camera is in a fixed position and will not move. Its primary use cases are for garages, enex scenes, and more.
16 MODE_1STPERSON Used camera mode when you use the right analog stick to move the camera around.
17 MODE_FLYBY Usage discouraged The cutscene camera mode (at least in GTA: III and GTA: VC).
18 MODE_CAM_ON_A_STRING Camera used for vehicles. There are several modes for the distance.
19 MODE_REACTION Usage discouraged Reaction camera mode 1. It is not available anymore and can only be found on the PS2 version of GTA: III.
20 MODE_FOLLOW_PED_WITH_BIND Usage discouraged Reaction camera mode 2. It is not available anymore and can only be found on the PS2 version of GTA: III.
21 MODE_CHRIS Usage discouraged - Reaction camera mode 3 (probably added by Chris). It is not available anymore and can only be found on the PS2 version of GTA: III.
22 MODE_BEHINDBOAT Camera will pan behind boats.
23 MODE_PLAYER_FALLEN_WATER Usage discouraged Used in III/VC/LCS whenever the player gets in water.
24 MODE_CAM_ON_TRAIN_ROOF Usage discouraged Train camera mode which is only available in GTA: III PS2.
25 MODE_CAM_RUNNING_SIDE_TRAIN Usage discouraged Train camera mode which is only available in GTA: III PS2.
26 MODE_BLOOD_ON_THE_TRACKS Usage discouraged Train camera mode which is only available in GTA: III PS2.
27 MODE_IM_THE_PASSENGER_WOOWOO Usage discouraged Used while riding the train as a passenger in GTA: III. It is only available on the PS2 version of GTA: III.
28 MODE_SYPHON_CRIM_IN_FRONT Usage discouraged Special camera mode used when locking on to a target. Not used very often.
29 MODE_PED_DEAD_BABY Usage discouraged Camera mode used when the player dies.
30 MODE_PILLOWS_PAPS Usage discouraged Intended to be used during idle scenes when the player looks at female bums. It is a leftover from the BETA stage of GTA: III (but can still be found in the PS2 version though). See the DW camera modes for more info.
31 MODE_LOOK_AT_CARS Usage discouraged Intended to be used during idle scenes when the player looks at vehicles (often the rear). It is a leftover from the BETA stage of GTA: III (but can still be found in the PS2 version though). See the DW camera modes for more info.
32 MODE_ARRESTCAM_ONE Usage discouraged Camera mode used when the player is busted. It is not used anymore though (only MODE_ARRESTCAM_TWO is still used)
33 MODE_ARRESTCAM_TWO Usage discouraged Camera mode used when the player is busted.
34 MODE_M16_1STPERSON Used in various 3D era games for the first person assault rifle aiming.
35 MODE_SPECIAL_FIXED_FOR_SYPHON Usage discouraged Special camera mode used when locking on to a target. Not used very often.
36 MODE_FIGHT_CAM Usage discouraged An unused fighting camera mode. It is a leftover from the BETA stage of GTA: III. See the DW camera modes for more info (MODE_DW_BIRDY specifically).
37 MODE_TOP_DOWN_PED Usage discouraged Same as MODE_TOPDOWN, but only used for peds.
38 MODE_LIGHTHOUSE Usage discouraged Used in GTA: VC for the Washington Beach lighthouse.
39 MODE_SNIPER_RUNABOUT Usage discouraged Camera mode used when aiming while walking/running around. Unused and is part of the unfinished first person mode which was planned in GTA: III but was scrapped.
40 MODE_ROCKETLAUNCHER_RUNABOUT Usage discouraged Camera mode used when aiming while walking/running around. Unused and is part of the unfinished first person mode which was planned in GTA: III but was scrapped.
41 MODE_1STPERSON_RUNABOUT Usage discouraged Camera mode used when aiming while walking/running around. Unused and is part of the unfinished first person mode which was planned in GTA: III but was scrapped.
42 MODE_M16_1STPERSON_RUNABOUT Usage discouraged Camera mode used when aiming while walking/running around. Unused and is part of the unfinished first person mode which was planned in GTA: III but was scrapped.
43 MODE_FIGHT_CAM_RUNABOUT Usage discouraged Camera mode used while fighting and waling/running around. Unused and is part of the unfinished first person mode which was planned in GTA: III but was scrapped.
44 MODE_EDITOR Probably used by an in-game editor of sorts.
45 MODE_HELICANNON_1STPERSON Camera mode used for the Hunter rifles.
46 MODE_CAMERA Camera weapon scope.
47 MODE_ATTACHCAM Camera which is constantly attached to a ped or vehicle.
48 MODE_TWOPLAYER Usage discouraged 2-player camera mode.
49 MODE_TWOPLAYER_IN_CAR_AND_SHOOTING Usage discouraged 2-player camera mode for drive bys.
50 MODE_TWOPLAYER_SEPARATE_CARS Usage discouraged 2-player camera mode for driving in separate cars.
51 MODE_ROCKETLAUNCHER_HS Aiming camera for the heat-seeking rocket launcher.
52 MODE_ROCKETLAUNCHER_RUNABOUT_HS Usage discouraged Camera mode used when aiming while walking/running around.
53 MODE_AIMWEAPON Used primarily when aiming a weapon (obviously when that weapon doesn't have its own camera mode(s)).
54 MODE_TWOPLAYER_SEPARATE_CARS_TOPDOWN Usage discouraged 2-player camera mode for driving in separate cars while in top down mode.
55 MODE_AIMWEAPON_FROMCAR Used when aiming a weapon while in a vehicle as a passenger (drive by as a player).
56 MODE_DW_HELI_CHASE Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - heli / birds view.
57 MODE_DW_CAM_MAN Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - generic vehicle campath 1 (camera will zoom in quite quickly and pan to the vehicle.
58 MODE_DW_BIRDY Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - generic vehicle campath 2 (the final version of MODE_FLYBY - the camera will fly by your vehicle).
59 MODE_DW_PLANE_SPOTTER Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - camera will be placed at the ground and will follow your aircraft.
60 MODE_DW_DOG_FIGHT Usage discouraged Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - Probably used for dog fighting, but is no longer used.
61 MODE_DW_FISH Usage discouraged Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - Probably intended as a underwater camera mode used while driving boats, but there is little to no reference to this mode in the binariess.
62 MODE_DW_PLANECAM1 Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - Basicly the same as MODE_DW_BIRDY but only used for aircraft. The flyby will be vertical.
63 MODE_DW_PLANECAM2 Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - Basicly the same as MODE_DW_BIRDY but only used for aircraft. The flyby will be horizontal.
64 MODE_DW_PLANECAM3 Derek Ward (DW) cinematic camera - The camera will focus on the pilot of the aircraft.
65 MODE_AIMWEAPON_ATTACHED Probably a first person camera mode where the camera is attached to the weapon.
